Zelda 1:
Link, the hero of this story. Link seems to be an ordinary boy, but while he was wandering the fields of hyrule he happened upon an old woman in trouble. Fighting off the monsters that attacked her showed his courage, and Impa, the woman he saved, told him of Princess Zelda's plight, how she had been kidnapped by the dark lord Ganon, and of the Triforce's of Wisdom and Power.

Burning with a sense of justice, Link resolved to save Zelda, but Ganon was a powerful opponent. He held the Triforce of Power. And so, in order to fight off Ganon, Link had to bring the scattered eight fragments of the Triforce of Wisdom together to rebuild the mystical Triangle. If he couldn't do this, there would be no chance Link could fight his way into Death Mountain where Ganon lived.

Princess Zelda, ruler in the Kingdom of Hyrule, held the Triforce of Wisdom. She knew that the Prince of Darkness, Ganon, coveted this mystical artifact. Before he reached it, and her, she split the Triforce of Wisdom into eight pieces and they were hidden throughout the land. At the same time she sent her trusty nursemaid, Impa, in search of a hero strong and courageous enough to destroy Ganon. Soon afterwards she was kidnapped by Ganon, and is now being held by him in his labyrinth in Death Mountain.
When Princess Zelda splits the Triforce of Wisdom into 8 pieces she commands Impa, her most trustworthy nursemaid, to secretly escape into the land and go find a man with enough courage to destroy the evil Ganon. Right as Impa is overtaken by Ganon's minions, Link saves her, and she intrusts Link with the quest and sets him on his way.
