Equipment
Sword
Link can use his sword to inflict damage on almost all of the enemies. Use button A for the sword. The enemy will flash when wounded, and will be knocked backwards. Link can get three types of swords, each with different striking power. These swords are displayed inside frame A at the top of the main screen. The first Sword Link will get from the Old Man in the cave above you when you start the game.
White Sword
The White Sword has twice the attacking power of the regular Sword.You must have five Heart Containers to get the White Sword.

To get the White Sword you must do this: From Start, go right one screen, up five, left one, up one, right three, up one, and enter the door. Simply step on the White Sword to pick it up.

Magical Sword
The Magical Sword has twice the attacking power of the White Sword. You must have12 Heart Containers to get the Magic Sword.

Find the Magical Sword: From Start, go right one screen, up five, left one, up one, left three, down one, left one, down one, left two and up one. Push a gravestone on this screen to reveal a Hidden Staircase. Take the stairs to get the Magic Sword.

Shield
When Link is not attacking, he can use the shield that is always by his side to fend off the enemy's attacks. Don't forget! There are some enemy attacks that Link can't defend against. Link has this Shield from the start of his adventures. Use it to protect him from the spears and rocks that enemies throw.

Magic Shield

  • This is bigger than the other shield. Use it to fend off the enemy's spells and rocks, and Zola's ball. The Magic Shield is actually in a shop. If you go right 1, up 3, left 2 from the start, and burn the corner bush...it is only 90 rupees.
Wooden Boomerang
Link can use this to inflict damage on weak enemies. He can also stop most of the enemies in their tracks if he throws the boomerang on target.

Find the Wooden Boomerang: From the beginning of Level One, go up three screens and right one. Destroy every last enemy in the room to make it appear.

Magical Boomerang
Link can use this to inflict damage on weak enemies. He can also stop most of the enemies in their tracks if he throws the boomerang on target. The Magical Boomerang flies further than the Wooden Boomerang.

Find the Magical Boomerang: From the beginning of Level Two, go right one screen, up three and right one. Destroy every last enemy in the room to make the Magic Boomerang appear.

Bomb
Set one of these, and Link can overpower the enemy with the explosive blast. For each Bomb he picks up, he gets four Bombs. Link can carry at most eight bombs. At the beginning of the game, he can't have any more than this number. So use them sparingly!
Bow
Link can use them only if he has both the Bow and an Arrow. For each Arrow Link shoots, he looses one Ruby. Oh, by the way, there are some enemies that can be disposed of using only the Bow and Arrow. So be alert!

Find the Bow: From the beginning of Level One, go up five screens, and left one. Destroy all of the enemies in this room to obtain the Bow.

Wooden Arrow
Link can use them only if he has both the Bow and an Arrow. For each Arrow Link shoots, he looses one Ruby. Oh, by the way, there are some enemies that can be disposed of using only the Bow and Arrow. So be alert! The Arrow can be bought from several different merchants in the overworld. You only need to purchase the Arrow once. After that you'll use a Rupee each time you fire an Arrow.
Silver Arrow
You will need the Silver Arrows to kill Ganon. Link can use them only if he has both the Bow and an Arrow. For each Arrow Link shoots, he looses one Ruby. Oh, by the way, there are some enemies that can be disposed of using only the Bow and Arrow. So be alert!

Find the Silver Arrows: From the beginning of Level Nine, go up two screens, left one, through the Secret Passage, then right two, up one, left one (bomb the wall), through another Secret Passage, left two, through yet another Secret passage, then up one (bomb the wall), and through the last Secret Passage.

Blue Candle
Some of the rooms inside of the labyrinths are really dark. So use these to brighten them up. Blue Candles are good for one screen only, but the Red ones can light up rooms for several screens.

The Blue Candle can be purchased from several merchants in the overworld for 60 Rupees. One of these merchants can be found up one screen and left one screen from Start.

Red Candle
