Description: "Flood This Land"
In the beginning to the Wind Waker, the story is told of a brave hero who challenges the odds and casts away evil. We know him as, "the Hero of Time" from the Ocarina of Time, but there is quite a bit of discontinuity between the two games. I suspect there was another war between good and evil during the gap between the two games. I believe that a different Link and Zelda called out to the gods to flood the lands of Hyrule to banish evil. Link and Zelda returned to the new surface, and raised the next generation of creatures. Zelda, being the distant relative of Tetra, passed down the Royal Family's Gossip Stone (shown in my painting), to her children, which was eventually how Tetra came to own it.

Description: "Night of the Final Day"
"You have the same smell as the fairy kid who taught me that song in the woods..." -Skull Kid

Whether it's short changing you for that skull mask in Ocarina of Time or trying to crash the moon into Termina in Majora's Mask , this imp always wants to cause mischief.

Little is know about the origin of Majora but theres no doubt his evil is interwoven throughout the history of hyrule.

Description: Then, the Hero of Winds Link – now a handsome young man – saw it: land. A new land shining with pure sand on its shores by the light of the full moon. Smiling wide, he closed his eyes and enjoyed all the cheers from the crew of the ship as they listened the great news. It took a time, no so long as he had expected but long enough to some of his beloved ones couldn’t be there with him to see their promised new motherland. Even with these nostalgic thoughts, the Hero kept his smile – the happiness for the future that everybody wished was the reason. He leaned down to see the Captain of the ship and she was smiling too below that enchanted sky. Together since both knew their fate, the fearless Captain (former fearless pirate) Tetra had been his boss, his best friend, his adventure companion, his beautiful princess and now the biggest part of his heart. This find was hers too and when their sights encountered, Hero and Captain understood the real meaning of the Hyrule King’s last wish in memories shaped like dreams.
Following the Hero and the Captain with great eager, the crew descended from the ship despite the necessary cautions that were commanded. Link and Tetra reached a little hilltop and they became breathless as a rising golden sun showed them the territory: the largest forest that anybody could imagine, heat of volcanos, snowflakes from frozen mountains and sweet water of lakes and rivers. Holding hands, they called at the same time: we're home.

Description: "Deku Family Tree"

As a zelda gamer, I'm always wondering about how events in the zelda timeline work. I've always been interested in learning about the deku trees. There are only two deku trees that I know of, and they are the OoT deku tree, and the WW deku tree. I like to think that the deku sprout of Oot is the deku tree in WW. They both have that same kind of look, and so that's what I tried to portray. It was a fun piece to do and I hope I have a chance in winning. I think it would be so cool to be in a calender.

Description: "Book of Mudora"

Link fulfilling the prophecy about using the Book of Mudora to translate the stone tablet in the desert. I like the idea that the Book of Mudora contains the records of Hyrule's history as well as being a translation key, so the Hylian spilling from the book is spelling out some lines from OoT's creation myth.

Description: "Wing Ceremony"
To me one of the most important scenes from Skyward Sword would be the Wing Ceremony. The Wing Ceremony takes place on the Goddess of Hylia statue. The winner of the Loftwing race gets to participate with Zelda who takes on the role of the Goddess. I find it important, because it is the time where Link becomes a knight and receives a Zelda’s sailcloth. Zelda giving Link her sailcloth symbolizes the time that the Goddess of Hylia gave to her Hero. The scene was beautiful and the affection that Zelda has for Link is clear. I really loved this part of the game and wanted to recreate the touching moment in my piece.

Description: "The Drowning of Hyrule"
When the Beast's seal broke in the Sacred Realm, Farore looked far and wide for her boy in green. Alas, the cycle had been distorted and he was nowhere to be found. The Triforce of Courage shattered with Farore's heartache and her tears threatened to drown Hyrule. Din and Nayru could not stem her grief and did what they could to save their peoples, for nothing can live in a sea of sorrow. But in the end, the kingdom was swept away and forgotten.

Description: "A Link to the Victory"

Never Give Up
There is Always Hope

This is part of the History of Hyrule when OoT Link failed to defeat Ganon, resulting in the events of ALTTP. Here, on the right, I based Link's pose from one of the best known ALTTP sprites. The motto had me going through this difficult month so I stuck it there to inspire others.

Description: "The Flood of Hyrule"
After the events of Ocarina of Time, the land of Hyrule falls under the tyrannical reign of Ganon. With the people in terror, and the Hero of Time no where in site, the goddesses take matters into their own hands--Din seals the evil that plagues the land, Nayru sheds tears for the destruction of their beautiful creations to not only flood the land but to also mourn, and Farore shelters the few survivors who have fled for shelter high atop Death Mountain.

Years later, a boy known as the Hero of Winds will come...

I wanted to represent an event that we have not seen in a game, but that happened after Ocarina of Time in the flooding of Hyrule to make the Sea Wind Waker. I created the drawing in a view angle of Hyrule Field to show how it could have started. This transition occurred over 100 years, so we can see that the village blocked the door to keep out water.

Description: "The Arrival of Demise"
When the gods of old left the world they created, they trusted their ultimate power, the Triforce, to the hands of Hylia so that she could protect it. She did so throughout the Era of the Goddess Hylia until one day a crack opened up in the earth and the Demon King Demise and his demonic hordes came forth from the fissure...

In order to prevent the great power from falling into the hands of Demise, Hylia gathered the humans and sent them skyward with the Triforce, beyond the reach of evil forces wrecking havoc upon the surface world.

Description: "Fate of the Trinity Pirates"
Long before birth of the hero of the wind, a small group of pirates became notorious for their hunt of what was known as golden triumph forks. They were fearsome, for they used whatever means, once they got a whiff of the prize. Some thought, that gods themselves punished them for their arrogance. However it was, they perished at the sea.

A bit of this and that, I thought it’d be interesting if it was their ship that is the ghost ship in the wind waker. Even after their death, the ship wanders about carrying the memory of their failed mission. As for their looks, I thought it’s interesting contradiction that they resemble the three goddesses, but whether they actually are their incarnations or not, who knows.

Only those who had crossed the hero's path and still remembered him as a friend could feel that his journey had come to an end. Description: We Have Never Met Before
"but I have always been missing you"

The picture is meant to portray the first meeting of Hylia and Demise.
It's sort of built around the idea that history is always written by the winner(in this case Hylia) which means that things may not always have happened as they are told afterwards, and that Hylia and Demise were not always enemies but more balanced good and evil.

Demises hair is black similar to how it's first black when he get's revived, showing that he sort of just awoke and Hylia being the first being he ever sees/meets.

"When the land of Hyrule was still young, and the Golden Goddesses still roamed The Surface, they created two beings to protect the Sacred Triangles, along with the inhabitants of their land. These guardian deities were named Hylia and Demise. Both were solely devoted to the Goddesses and the land of Hyrule. The Goddesses believed that the demigods were capable of caring for their land, and ascended to the heavens above. When the Golden Goddesses departed from The Surface, Hylia accepted their decision, but Demise felt abandoned and betrayed. He grew rampant and declared war upon Hylia and the Surface’s people. Hylia, severely wounded from Demise’s attacks, became desperate, and resolved to seal Demise away until a proper Hero could defeat him."

Description: "Demon War"
I went with pre-Skysword era-- depicting a meeting on the battle field of Demise's Demon army and Lords/Generals against the Goddess Hylia and the land races. I made Hylia's design more Bird Goddess then just a Zelda copy like the manga-- from all the illustrations/depictions in Game she seemed to have had feathers, tall and very ethereal. I ran with that. I used Ghirahim's concept art for more Lords as to give the look of a strong army and force. Also included Batreaux as a Lord as he is a demon and was clearly had some strong demonic power, going with that at some point he had to have been with Demise. (Kinda inspired off an article written on Zelda Dungen).

Description: "Finding Zelda"
This piece is when you find Zelda in Skyward Sword, which leads to both the forgery of the Master Sword and the part where Zelda sleeps for like, a hundred years to keep balance in Hyrule until Link can save the day. At first I was going to have their expressions in the background, but then I realized that SS is a very expressive game, even without the faces. So I decided that I wanted the viewer to look at this piece and see what it means to them. Whether you have just found her or she's now going to go into her deep sleep, whether you hear "I am you Zelda" or "I promise," I wanted it to be different for every person that saw this. And I didn’t want them to just think of SS. I wanted them to think of all the other Zelda’s they stayed up all night playing for, and thus behind Zelda in this picture you can see the imprints of other Princess Zelda's as well. So this pic is not only a representation of when you find Zelda and the Master Sword is created and she goes to sleep to protect Hyrule, but it also a representation and Zelda and the player.

It isn't really explained what Fierce Deity is, or why he was turned into a mask. I have tons and tons of ideas about what he could be or how or why he was turned into/put into a mask, and Hylia sealing him felt the most plausible of all of them. We know that he's tremendously powerful, possibly so powerful that only Hylia herself could seal him away. Perhaps, though, there was some relationship between them before he had to be sealed away - as Hylia and Demise were the original Zelda and Ganon, perhaps Deity was the original Link. Purely speculation on my part though!

Description: "Creation of the Triforce"

A long time ago…

Before life began, before the world had form, three golden goddesses descended upon the chaotic land of Hyrule. They were Din, the Goddess of Power, Nayru, the Goddess of Wisdom, and Farore, the Goddess of Courage.

Din, with her strong flaming arms, cultivated the land to create the earth. Nayru poured her wisdom onto the earth to give the spirit of law to the world. Farore’s rich soul created all life forms who would uphold the law.

These three great goddesses returned to the heavens, leaving behind the golden sacred Triforce.

Description: "The Fated Encounter in the Sky"
"The bird that came to him was a Crimson Loftwing." ~Gaepora - The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword

I chose to depict the first encounter between Link, the boy who will later be chosen by Zelda--reincarnation of the Goddess Hylia and ancestor of the Royal Family of Hyrule--and his rare Crimson Loftwing. He will become Link's fateful companion in his quest to free the Surface (Hyrule's old name) from the Demon King Demise. Thus, the encounter between the young boy and his Loftwing is one of the key events that led to the foundation of the Kingdom of Hyrule.

If I had to match a month with this image, I think the most suitable one could be February (the hearts in the foreground could be associated with Valentine's Day), or, more generally, any Spring month.

Description: "Final Blow"
The battle against the King of the exiled interlopers, Gandrag, took place in their hiding place, an abandoned temple in the desert, where his army had perfected the black magic necessary to break into the Sacred Realm. It is said that the final battle was so fierce, the hero Link lost his right arm at that battle, and hence had to defeat Gandrag using his left arm. Since then, sword trainees are taught to handle the weapon using both hands. Curiously, the naturally left handed somehow manage to develop superior skills…

Description: "End Duel"
This is a scene from the final battle between Link and the Sheikahn dark wizard Agahnim in the "Shadow of Katirok" fan story - written by Andy Pinkston and Mikey Patch.

"Some time ago, before the King of Hyrule unified this country, there was a fierce war in our world."
— Deku Tree Sprout

Link awakens from a terrible dream of war and destruction. The last time he dreamt of something so significant, Hyrule was overthrown by the bearer of the triforce of power. He had to travel through time to change the course of history. But maybe this change made a new path for evil to tread.

During the Hyrulean civil war for the Triforce and the sacred realm, 2 warriors saved Hyrule from the Garo interlopers from the north. One (the most powerful) was a Fierce and loyal knight of the King named Ealit, and the other was the prodigy of the sheikah named Agahnim. Under the direction of the Majune, the matriarch of the sheikah, Agahnim betrayed Ealit and the king in a plot for obtaining the triforce. The traitor sheikahs were executed and Agahnim was banished to the desolate land of the Garo in the north called Katirok.

8 years later, the time of peace granted by the Hero of Times victory, is coming to an end. Agahnim survived, and has returned far more powerful that ever before. Link must find a fierce power from the past in order to protect the future.

Description: "Enter Ezlo"
I decided to illustrate a scene that even though it can't be consider epic or breathtaking, it's still rather important, which is when you meet and save Ezlo for the first time in the Minish Woods. Now if you actually think about it, without Ezlo, Link would've never been able to do half the things he did, in fact, without Ezlo, Hyrule and the Princess would've been lost. You need Ezlo in order to keep going on your adventure (he's the one who turns you to minish size, the one who helps you hover around, etc.) and not only that, but since the moment he decides to accompany you, he becomes Link's trademark cap! I mean, Link isn't Link without his hat! Not only that, but Ezlo IS the Minish Cap! He's that awesome. Which is why I believe the moment they meet and Link saves him it's so important, because without him, Link would've been lost. Literally.

Description: "The Four Sword"
I decided to draw the scene in The Minish Cap, in which, after recollecting the 4 elements from the different temples, you're finally able to get the Four Sword. Now the importance of this when it comes to Hyrule's history it's actually huge. Thanks to the Four Sword you're able to stop Vaati and not only that, but the Four Sword forged in this game is the same one used in the Four Swords games. You can say that this sword it's a less powerful version of the Master Sword, as it also has the power to repel evil and thanks to it, Link was able to defeat Vaati, not only in the Minish Cap, but in other games too.

Description: "The Hero of Men"
Cornered, the young boy studies the monsters around him. They were obviously sent to capture him, or they would have killed him by now.

The war was getting dire...Hyrule was losing. As he edges towards the cliff, he eyes the water below. He can't let himself be captured, he has to jump. The tempestuous ocean roars as he gathers up the courage to dive, when a golden light pierces the sky and envelopes him. Tiny creatures float down, using a green hat as a parachute, clinging desperately to a beautiful sword.

The monsters freeze. As they watch in fear, the defenseless boy accepts the blade, his eyes now full of fire. Masterfully wielding the sword, he cuts each one of them down.

The young boy emerged from the war as a hero among men, every beast sealed in a chest with the Picori Blade. For all the tiny Picori's help, the kingdom began celebrating a yearly festival in their honor. And for saving Hyrule during its hopeless hour, the boy became forever remembered as the Hero of Men.

Description: I wanted to draw a scene with a lesser-remembered Zelda villain, whom of which not many seem to draw. Vaati was an instant pick for me! As soon as I chose him, I figured it would be in the Four Swords Sanctuary, for that seemed like a perfect setting. Now, Vaati appears in a few games, and in different forms. But only one contains his Hylian form, and that, sadly, does not intertwine with this setting.

So, instead of his monstrous form, I decided upon his more humanoid one. I also included the seven Maidens, for they don’t too much attention either and it would kind of seem bland with just Princess Zelda and Link around, wouldn’t it? Well, I hope you enjoy this piece!

The festival starts with the gathering of flowers and decoration of the towns in Greens, Blues and Reds. After several years of training, the young king of the Gerudos had to face his last task. He had to make his way through the Gerudo desert until he reached the Desert Colossus, where he meditated for two days without any food or water. This completed his physical and spiritual training and showed him worthy of being a king. But this king should be different from the ones before him – instead of receiving the blessing of the goddesses, the Imprisoned possessed him completely, which later made people refer to him as the Great Demon King.

Description: "Golden Power"
Equipped with the silver arrows and the auspicious Master Sword, awakened from its pedestal in the Lost Woods, Link managed to vanquish Ganon.

Onwardly, the Triforce, used from the personification of all that is evil to tear the Sacred Realm apart, slowly materializes before him.

With the Pendants of Courage, Wisdom and Power, clinging as a reminiscence of his hazardous journey around his neck, such as the Titan´s mitt on his battle-scarred hands, he´s looking in awe at the manifestation of the essence of the gods. Bringing to mind the hero is given a rare opportunity, a temptation countless corrupted or selfish hearts desired.

"The Triforce will grant the wishes in the heart and mind of the person who touches it.
If a person with a good heart touches it, it will make his good wishes come true.
If an evil-hearted person touches it, it will grant his evil wishes.
The stronger the wish, the more powerful the Triforce´s expression of that wish.
Ganon´s wish was to conquer the world. That wish changed the Golden Land to the Dark World.

Ganon was building up his power here so he could conquer the Light World and make his wish come completely true.

But now, you have totally destroyed Ganon. His Dark World will vanish.
The Triforce is waiting for a new owner. Its Golden Power is in your hands...
Now touch it with a wish in your heart."

Summary: Historical Event: "Royal Zenithal Tide Observance"

Once every three years the Zora hold a celebration called the "Zenithal Tide Observance" when the moon is aligned perfectly between the sun and world (similar to the earth's Proxigean Spring Tide.) The "Royal Zenithal Tide Observance" occurs only once a generation when the rightful heir to the throne has come of age and is officially given the crown by their predecessor. It is a special night not only for all of the Zora people, but particularly for the young royal as it offers one solemn night of learning wisdom and spending time with their lost beloved parent before said preceding ruler returns to the afterlife.

This painting honors this event during the reign of Prince Ralis, son of Queen Rutela.

Summary: I chose my favourite part of the Legend of Zelda mythos and probably the most tragic of all: the very end of Hyrule.

The vain struggles for survival of the kingdom against Ganondorf, the Goddesses act of the flooding and the exodus that lead to the civilizations of the Great Sea.
The best way to describe this image could be quoting Daphnes Nohansen Hyrule himself:

Once, long ago, this land of Hyrule was turned into a world of shadows by Ganon who sought to obtain the power of the Gods for his evil ends. My power alone could not stop the fiend, and our only choice was to leave the fate of the kingdom in the hands of the Gods...

Summary: "To Build Our World"
The sun glinted off the progressing castle, the balmy breeze ruffling the leaves in the tress, calling out to the birds, requesting a soft, melodious soundtrack to accompany the strenuous work unfolding below.

Almost all of the snow had melted, revealing a fresh layer of emerald grass in its wake. The perfect grass, the welcoming rays of sunlight, the youthful people busying themselves with preparing the grand palace... it was all a reminder that purity and dignity were returning to the once troubled Surface. The land was thriving once again, a contagious radiance emitting from each and every individual who graced the terrain.

The statue of the Goddess Hylia was there to spur the working people on, to encourage them that they were creating something symbolic and precious. Hyrule Castle would stand tall; remain meaningful to the people of the Kingdom through good times and bad for generations to come.

Casting another watchful gaze toward the people below was a Skyloftian with an unbreakable spirit, a strikingly beautiful maiden by his side. The duo observed as the castle neared its completion, ignoring the way some of the workers who were more prone to gossiping stared at them, murmuring about how life and love go on, no matter what.

That was true, wasn't it? Life and love do go on, it always finds a way. When the darkness dissipates and wholesome light returns to the land, who is not to say that the brilliance can sometimes reflect through the people, change the way they see the world, the way they see each other?

Summary: "The Beginning"
I know this part probably wouldn't be called momentous, or even something that would be noted in history (if Wind Waker's anything to go by, it wasn't), but it reminded me of one of Bilbo's lines from LoTR that had something to do with one of the hardest things to do on a journey was stepping out your front door or something. (I'd look it up, but I'm probably remembering it completely wrong, and it's so much better and more fitting this way) I remember from my first time playing the game, I was totally okay with doing everything in Kokiri Forest; it was the kid's home. Running from a giant boulder to get a sword? Okay. Running around like a loon to get shinny gem things to buy a shield? Okay. Go in this giant talking tree's mouth and play exterminator? Okay. But as soon as I was suppose to go through the big, dark tree trunk hole to leave, all I could think was "...is this okay?" I actually refused to go through it at first, and ran around the forest trying to find some other storyline I was suppose to follow that didn't involve me going through the hole that everyone said was going to kill me.

Summary: "Interlude"
This is placed during Link's seven years of sleep. Probably doesn't really seem important, but the missing seven years just strikes me as a time that would permanently define a lot of the characters. Not everyone got to just fall asleep as a kid and then wake up as an adult, merrily skipping over the agony and angst of puberty along the way. And, since the entire game franchise is named after her, I used Zelda. She goes seven years being hidden away from a dark overlord who's trying to hunt her down; you'd think some of the stuff she went through would be important.

The final challenge. It's here, on the heart of the Valley of Death, that the Triforce of Courage has been kept hidden for generations, awaiting the arrival of a hero worthy of its power.

Link had received from Impa six crystals, and he placed them into stone statues located deep within of six Palaces scattered across the land of Hyrule. By doing this, the binding force at the entrance of the Great Palace will disappear as he approaches the Palace.
His courage and true heart will be tested when he defeats the last of the guardians. But he has nothing to fear: he's the Chosen one to get the Triforce, and the beacon of hope for Hyrule.

Summary: "The Ancient Power"
“It is called Majora's Mask. It is an accursed item from legend that is said to have been used by an ancient tribe in its hexing rituals. It is said that an evil and wicked power is bestowed upon the one who wears that mask. According to legend... the troubles caused by Majora's Mask were so great... the ancient ones, fearing such catastrophe, sealed the mask in shadow forever, preventing it's misuse. But now, that tribe from the legend has vanished, so no one really knows the true nature of the mask's power...”

A theory I decided to put into motion. Impa enters the Lanaryu Mining Facility of the Past with a Timeshift Stone, in order to remove Majora's Mask and seal it away in shadow. After viewing the extinction of the Ancient Robots, it was clear Hyrule's safety was at stake. When I first played Skyward Sword, I was immediately struck by the similarity in the music between Lanaryu Mining Facility and Majora's Mask's theme. I found the vibrant colors reminiscent of the mask, and found it interesting that even if the Thunder Dragon was saved, the Ancient Robots still all died out. I theorized they could have discovered or created the Mask, seeking an alternate power source as the Thunder Dragon ailed. Electricity could easily be viewed as “a hexing ritual” by the rather medieval races that we've seen throughout Zelda games. Impa's time portal also very much reminded me of the portal through which Link enters Terminia, which is often referred to as “Hyrule's shadow”. There are so many more details I could share on similarities, but then this description would go on and on and on-- my original document going over similarities was well over 900 words. So, I will spare you reading it here and instead let my artwork tell the story.

Every 100 years, a male child is born to the Gerudo Race, and this child is to be King of the Gerudo. Thus, Ganondorf was born and raised to become a great king. At first birth, the people of the race share the child and his safe arrival to the world with the rest of the race, garbing him in the cloth he would one day wear upon his armor with great dignity and pride. The people raise him to the sky and ask for the Goddesses blessing, and the Goddesses show their presence; Din in the strong, red earth, Nayru in the lawful sky, and Farore in the lively, newborn King. Assured that this child would bring them happiness, they agree to raise him so that he would protect and save them from the harsh desert one day.

Description: Stories of the Triforce in which one speaks of a strange power that can grant any wish , reached the ears of Ganondorf, once he gathered a good army, sent out to conquer Hyrule through battles and betrayals, with the intention of fulfilling his desire to get the Triforce.

Meanwhile, the Seven Sages sought a brave person, to carry a weapon that had been created to banish evil, that person was Link, who after taking the Master Sword, is transported to the Chamber of Sages, where it remains dormant for seven years, he was too young to be the legendary hero of Time.During that time, Ganondorf invaded Hyrule, causing chaos and besieging the castle, there was a long battle where the Knights of Hyrule fought so fierce, and while fighting bravely to the end, were eliminated almost full, doing their duty, their lives were not lost in vain, they gave the time to a link awaking.

Ganondorf managed to enter the sacred place, there, shining, the Triforce was in all its glory. when Ganondorf touched the Triforce, to his surprise it was divided into three parts: the value of the of Wisdom, the Power and Courage. Ganondorf was only able to get the Triforce of Power. The Triforce of Wisdom went to Princess Zelda and the Triforce of Courage was installed in Link, Ganondorf knew he would need all parties to fulfill their goal.
